WELCOME TO WHO RACING

What is WHO Racing?
We are a couple of slot car enthusiasts who have set up a not-for-profit slot car race series that people can regularly attend, race in and enjoy. The hobby of HO slot car racing is interesting, challenging, competitive and above all inexpensive.

What is Slot Car Racing?
Slot car racing is more commonly known as "Scalextric" by most and involves electric model cars riding in a predetermined slot whilst racing others. The aim is to stay in the slot and be the fastest person round the track. Sounds easy until your racing with 3 other people and trying to be the one in the lead!

What is HO?
HO is the term used to describe the small scale of slot cars that we race. HO slot cars are 1/64th scale and approximately the size of a matchbox or corgi model car. They maybe small but they handle well, look great and go fast! Watch the YouTube videos on this site to get some idea.

What's the Race Event format?

30 minutes practice - take turns to get to know the track and get ready for the race.

4 x 3 minute heats - race against your competitors on each of 4 coloured lanes. Your best 3 scores determine which final you race in.

1 x 3 minute final - determines your finishing position and points for the race.

The winner and the highest-finishing junior (under 16) receive medals.

Points go towards a championship for each class with prizes awarded at the end of the year.

Juniors also have their own championship.

Results, pictures and a video are published on our SlotForum pages along with a full commentary of all the race action.

What cars will be used?

Formula One is our 'stock' class - cars must be raced with standard parts only. Club cars are Tyco 440x2 F1s with silicone tyres. If you would like to bring your own car, you can race a Tyco or a Tomy Racing Turbo with silicone rear tyres. Other cars must be raced with standard rubber tyres. Read the rules here.

From TYCO F1
The second class is MOD class. WHO Racing provide BSRT G3s with Tomy Super G+ parts as club cars. You are welcome to bring a chassis of your own providing it is within the rules.

From MOD CLASS
Chassis that racers could be used in MOD class include: Tomy SRT, Tomy Super G+, Tomy Mega-G, Life-Like, Tyco 440X2 and Micro Scalextric.

A new Nascar class will make two guest appearances in 2011. It is a stock, hard-body, closed-wheel class. The rules will appear here.

How much will it cost?
£2.50 per racer for the whole evening - all equipment is provided. If racers wish to buy their own cars (no obligation), we will be happy to assist. HO slot cars are very cheap and can be purchased for as little as £10-15 and spares are usually a £1 to £2 each. Both are easily available from UK suppliers and eBay. From January 2011 racers receive a 50p reduction on the race fee if they race their own car.

How old do I have to be?
WHO Racing is open to all ages. Adults and juniors are equally welcome and encouraged to race. If you are aged 12 or under you need to be accompanied by an adult.

Other racer involvements:
If racers wanted to be more involved in the future events we would welcome their thoughts and suggestions on track layouts, classes and any other ideas.

We look forward to seeing you at our events and hope you enjoy the racing!
